When Dennis Schroder found his father’s letter about his dream of seeing his son in the NBA, then 16-year-old, Dennis promised to succeed in basketball.
He has succeeded as a professional player for many clubs. Schröder started his professional basketball career in 2010 for SG Braunschweig.
The German participated in 32 games for Phantoms Braunschweig in the 2012–13 campaign. He was voted the League’s Most Improved Player and the Best Young German Player for the year.
Schröder’s participation in the World Select Team at the 2013 Nike Hoop Summit was announced in 2013. However, Schröder decided to enter the 2013 NBA draft before participating in the Nike Hoop Summit. Nevertheless, Schröder guided his squad to a 112-98 victory on April 20, 2013.
The Atlanta Hawks selected Schröder with the 17th overall choice in the 2013 NBA Draft on June 27, 2013. He joined the Hawks on July 11, 2013.
Dennis scored 22 points on December 22, 2014, as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Dallas Mavericks 105-102. On February 13, 2015, Dennis participated in the Rising Stars Challenge.
The German player continued to play behind the in 2015–16, making just six starts in 80 games. The 28-year-old and the Hawks extended his deal for four years and $70 million on October 26, 2016. Schröder matched his career high of 33 points on December 23, 2017.
He later played and made many records for Oklahoma City Thunder from 2018 to 2020, Los Angeles Lakers between 2020 and 2021, and Boston Celtics from 2021 to 2022. His latest appearance was for Houston Rockets in 2022.
He has successfully kept his word with his father.
