Wednesday will see the start of a lawsuit brought by the widow of NBA star Kobe Bryant over photos of his body taken shortly after his death.
After the basketball player died in a helicopter crash in 2020, along with their daughter and seven others, Vanessa Bryant sued the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office and the city’s fire department for injury to private life, seeking millions in unspecified damages.
Bryant claims MPs shared the footage with firefighters who arrived at the scene and failed to remove it for forensic purposes. According to the lawsuit, the deputy displayed the photos to prevent the guests and his fellow firefighter from being out of office hours.
Gianna, their 13-year-old daughter Kobe Bryant, parents and other players were traveling in a charter helicopter to attend the women’s basketball tournament when it crashed in the misty Calabasas Hills west of Los Angeles.
