With a final-round score of 69, Liz Young of England won the Swiss Ladies Open. It was the first title of her 14th season on the Ladies European Tour.
Linn Grant, an up-and-coming golfer from Sweden, lost to the 39-year-old by one shot at Holzhausern, where he finished at 12 under par. After making a bogey in the first round, Young, who was the leader going into the second round, made birdies on holes 3 and 7.
But she is now in first place in the Race to Costa del Sol, the LET’s season-long order of merit tournament.

Even when the weather is good, it can be hard to play on the Tour. During a season, you often move from one country to another without seeing any of your friends or family.
Liz Young, a member of the Ladies European Tour, has learned from being a mother on the road how important it is to keep things in perspective. She says, “Before I had a child, it was all about me and my golf, but now that I have a child, it’s not about you, it’s about her, and I’m out here to make a living.”
Most people are aware of how much Tour athletes give up: “My child will be five years old at the end of October, and the schools just recently opened their doors to new parents.

Liz Young was the last player in the Swiss Open Women’s Championship. The Englishman beat her in the last round. Liz Young won the VP Bank Swiss Open by one stroke in her 14th season. This was her first win on the women’s European Tour, which was something she had wanted for a long time.
The English woman had a one-shot lead going into the final round at Golfpark Holzhausern. She combined four birdies and one bogey to finish with a three-under-69 and keep the four-time LET champion Linn Grant from passing her.
The 39-year-old added more sparrows on days 11 and 14 to increase her lead to one stroke with four holes left. With a tie on the last day, she finished the week with a score of -12 and won a fantastic game.

For the past 25 years, the Smucker’s LPGA Child Development Centre on the LPGA Tour has made it possible for LPGA Tour mothers to compete at the highest level while raising their children.

Liz Young, a player on the Ladies European Tour, came up with the idea for The Rose Ladies Series, which will start again in 2020 after the first Coronavirus lockdown.
Liz began with a single event at Brockenhurst Manor, her home course in Hampshire. With the help of sponsors and backers like Justin and Kate Rose and Sky Sports, she turned her idea into an 8-event series that gave top professionals and amateurs in the UK the chance to play competitive golf.
Liz got the first Sports Marketing Surveys award, which was a scholarship set up by SMS Chairman, for her contributions to women’s golf and for playing great golf during the season (she finished third overall behind Charley Hull and Georgia Hall).

Liz Young, a member of the Ladies European Tour, has found that being a mother on Tour has really “put life in perspective,” and the 38-year-old said, “Before motherhood, it was all about me and my golf, but now I’m a mother, it’s not about you, it’s about her, and I’m out here to make a living.”
“I’m often away for a lot of weeks, but I’m also home for a lot of weeks. To put it in perspective, I could have a 9-to-5 job, which is 48 weeks of the year, but with my job, I can be away for 20 weeks and home for 20 weeks.
Most people know that Tour players have to give up a lot to play: “My child will turn five at the end of October, and the schools just started letting in new parents. But because it happened on a Tuesday afternoon and I had to be at the drawing party, my husband had to take her and I missed out on that.
“I know that things like that will happen. For example, I have to be in France on her first full day of school.
“It’s just trying to keep things in check. I can’t be gone for more than three weeks because it wouldn’t be fair to my family and to her. It just means that when I’m at a tournament, I have to work hard, get the points and the money, and then move on.
“This way of life is hard. When I was younger, I missed my friends’ weddings and had to turn down being a bridesmaid. You miss your friends’ birthdays and the birth of their first child because your job doesn’t end on the weekend.”

These are just some examples, but Young says: “Most girls who have kids quit because they can’t. When they have a baby, they say, “I might come back,” but they never do.
“If my parents didn’t live close by, I wouldn’t be able to go on Tour. I couldn’t leave it up to my husband and the nursery because that wouldn’t work. You need a lot of people to help you out because things will go wrong.”
On the LPGA Tour, they have the Smucker’s LPGA Child Development Centre, which has been around for 25 years and has helped LPGA Tour moms compete at the highest level while also bringing their kids along.
“What the LPGA has is great. They have a lot of support, and the same people work for them every week, so your kids don’t meet a new person every week. However, money is a problem, and if you had the Smucker’s here, there wouldn’t be any moms right now.
“As a mom, I understand why we need more help right now, but as a player, I understand why we don’t have it. It’s so hard.”
