Gerald Shargill was a US defense attorney who practiced in New York City, and in 1969 was admitted to the New York Bar.
He is considered one of the best criminal defense attorneys in New York and the country. During his career, he represented several well-known clients accused of white-collar crime and crime.
Shargil died at his home in Manhattan of Alzheimer’s disease on July 16, 2022. The defense attorney was 77 years old at the time of his death.

The cause of the death of Geraldo Rivera, America’s chief criminal attorney, was the problems of Alzheimer’s disease. His Brooklyn Law School classmate and close friend of many years, Geraldo Rivera, reported that he died at 7:00 a.m. on July 16, 2022, about four months before his 78th birthday.

He was described as “the smartest criminal defense attorney in America…quite possibly the greatest of his time” in receiving the New York State Criminal Defense Lawyers Association’s Thurgood Marshall Award for Distinguished Criminal Law Practitioner in 2006.
